Step-by-Step Guide for Beginners

Step-by-Step Guide

We understand that starting a new language course can be overwhelming, so we’ve put together a friendly guide to help you navigate and make the most of our app. Follow these steps to get started and enhance your learning experience.

1. Start at Level HSK1

If you're new to Chinese, begin with the first 20 lessons of the HSK1 level. These lessons will introduce you to the basics of the language and how it differs from your own. Although these lessons don’t include self-evaluations, they provide a solid theoretical foundation.

2. Engage with Word Games

After completing the initial lessons, start practicing with the word games. Follow them in the order they appear. This practical engagement helps reinforce the vocabulary you’ve just learned and makes learning fun!

3. Continue with Further Lessons

Keep reading and internalizing the remaining lessons. This will deepen your understanding of Chinese sentence structure and grammar. Don’t rush; take your time to absorb the material.

4. Practice Constructing Sentences

Once you’ve got a good amount of vocabulary under your belt, begin using the sentences section and sentences games. This will help you start constructing sentences using the words you know, giving you a taste of real-life usage.

5. Practice your writing

Chinese writing is one of the great challenges of this language. Before starting with writing, it is vitally important that you visually recognize a large portion of the characters at the level you are studying, as characters are often a combination of various radicals and other characters. Knowing them will greatly simplify writing through strokes. Stroke count and Hanzi writing games will help you with Chinese writing.

6. Train your pronunciation

The tonal pronunciation of the Chinese language is of vital importance. Changing the tone can make you say something completely different from what you intended to express. In the sentence games section, there is a pronunciation game for you to practice.

7. Graduate to Stories and Texts

Avoid jumping into stories or extensive texts until you feel confident with both words and sentences. These sections require a deeper understanding and are more complex, but they’re great for advanced practice once you're ready.

8. Use Flashcards Anytime

Flashcards are available for use at any point in your learning journey. They’re especially useful for reinforcing what you've learned. They unlock as you complete various word games and provide a visual aid for each word at this level.

9. Utilize Additional Resources

Within the HSK course, you have access to several useful tools:

  • Create Word Lists: Organize and review words you've learned.
  • Track Your Progress: Monitor your learning journey and see how far you've come.
  • Test Your Knowledge with Mock Exams: Use specific evaluations to test your understanding and identify areas for improvement.
